(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)Charlene Dee Bauer, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Friday, January 5, 2023, at Westgate at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch.
She was born on October 25, 1933, in Joplin to the late Hubert W. and Kathryn (Nelson) Hackney.
She graduated from Joplin High School with the class of 1951. She graduated from St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in August of 1954.

She married C. Mike Bauer in Dember of 1953. She was a Registered Nurse at Freeman Hospital for 27 years, retiring in 1993. In 1993 she and Mike retired and moved to Bella Vista, AR. She was a member of the First Community Church of Joplin and Bella Vista Community Church.
She enjoyed aerobics, Texas Contra, tap dance, line dancing, and spending time with family. She volunteered at Village House Adult Day Care and Cooper Elementary. Charlene returned to Joplin in 2018 to be near her family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike, in February of 2004, and her brother, Wayne Hackney, in 2016. She is survived by her two sons, Mike W. Bauer, and Mark G. Bauer, and his wife, Julie, and one granddaughter Kristen Bauer, all of Joplin.
A memorial committal of ashes will be held at Mt. Hope Cemetery, with day and time to be announced. Please check our website or you may call the mortuary during normal operating office hours.
