(From Parker Mortuary)Jeanne L. Mattes, formerly of Joplin, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2024 in Springfield, MO at the age of 98.
Jeanne was born April 24, 1925 in Baxter Springs, KS, the daughter of the late Homer and Thelma (Riseling) Galyon. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1943 and married John T. Mattes in 1947. They celebrated 54 years of marriage before his passing in 2001.
She was a stay-at-home mom taking care of her family. She was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was a very giving person and loved the 45 years she volunteered with the St. John’s Hospital Auxiliary. She was a former president of the organization and enjoyed many years running the “Cheer Cart” and information desk at the hospital. She had a passion for her volunteer work and being able to help at the hospital.
In addition to her parents, Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband John T. Mattes.
Survivors include her daughter, Malaine Ballard (Tim Patterson) of Joplin, son Chris Mattes of Springfield, MO and a granddaughter, Carlee Ballard of Joplin.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday, January 10th at 2:00 p.m. at the Mount Hope Cemetery Pavilion.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the Joplin Humane Society in care of Parker Mortuary.
