(From Daniel Funeral Home)Lorene Higgins, age 99, of Lamar, Missouri passed away January 10, 2024, at Good Shepherd Community Care in Lockwood, Missouri.
Lorene was born March 8, 1924 in Dade County, Missouri to Alexander Stephen Trimble and Mary Elizabeth (Offield) Trimble. Lorene graduated from SMSU with a B.S. in Elementary Education and from PSU with a Master's in Administration and Supervision. Lorene married J.B. Higgins on April 28, 1947 in Columbus, Kansas, he preceded her in death in October of 1991.
Lorene started teaching school in 1941. She taught in Dade and Barton counties for 40 years, retiring in 1981 after serving as elementary principal in Golden City School the last 13 years. She was an honorary member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, a member of Barton County RTA, member of Missouri RTA, member of Newport Needle Club and a member of Newport Cemetery Association.
Survivors include nieces and nephews, Judy Easson, Joy Miles, Gladys Percy, Pansy Hickman, Patsy Shields, Renee Pennell, Donna Reedy, Carrol Higgins, Billy Higgins, J.L. Higgins and Larry Trimble; two sisters-in-law, Nellie Higgins and Mary Ann Higgins.
Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband J.B.; one brother, Sylvester Trimble and nephews, Jody Miles, Calvin Higgins, Lary Higgins, Donald Higgins and Scott Trimble.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 - 12:30 p.m., Friday, January 19, 2024 at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, MO.
A private burial will be held at Newport Cemetery , east of Lamar, MO.
