(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)David R. Ames, age 82, of Joplin, MO, went to be with the Lord on March 13th, 2025, after a brief hospitalization.
David was born on October 31, 1942, in Joplin, MO to his parents Lester and Helen (Jarrett) Ames.
He served our country in the Airforce from 1959 until 1962 and fought in the Cuban Missile Crisis and had a long career with UPS, Joplin.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Helen Ames, and by his only son, Shawn Robert Ames.
David is survived by his wife, Betty; two daughters, Dena Ames-Tyler and Esther Ames; one daughter-in-law, Amber Ames, six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.
David never met a stranger and never missed an opportunity to witness. Whenever he met a new person, he always asked – if you died today, do you know where you are going? If not, let me tell you ‘bout my Jesus. To the very end he was witnessing even to the techs and nurses in the hospital. He was not at all shy about his faith and belief in Jesus Christ and there’s no doubt he planted many seeds.
There will not be a funeral or celebration of life. The family will be doing a small family celebration. In lieu of flowers or food, David would want you to donate to your favorite charity, church, or his favorite organization the Disabled Veterans Administration – specifically in Joplin, MO.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, but he is surely celebrating and having one heck of a fishing trip with his son, Shawn.
