Orian ‘Everett’ Edwards, 92, passed away peacefully on Nov. 29, 2015, following a courageous battle with leukemia.
Everett was born Feb. 1, 1923 in St. Louis, MO, the son of William and Mae (Christopher) Edwards. As a young man, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, during WW II, with the 17th airborne glider plane infantry. He was attached to Patton’s army during the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a bronze star for his service. Everett had many interesting careers during his lifetime; he worked as an engineer for Automatic Firing and McDonald Douglas in St. Louis and Rocketdyne in Neosho. He owned and operated Hatcher Engineering and served as the Newton County Surveyor. After his retirement, Everett pastored the Stella Methodist Church and later founded, built and pastored the Newton County Fellowship Church and authored several books related to Bible study. His career versatility also included, owning a restaurant, farming and radio announcing. He learned how to build a house and built his own home. For relaxing, he loved reading and woodcutting.
Everett married the love of his life, Mildred (Lakey) Edwards and they shared 73 years together, living 57 years in Neosho and she survives. In addition to his wife, Mildred (Millie), Everett is survived by two daughters, Joncee (Gary) Nodler and Sally (Joe) Chowning; one son, Kerry Edwards; two grandsons, J. Edward Chowning and Justin Nodler; five great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; two brothers, Ted Edwards and Forrest Edwards and one sister, June Hoff. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry.
