Gail Bass

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Leslie “Gail” Bass, age 58, went to be with the Lord on September 3, 2018 at 1:04am. He was surrounded by loved ones.

Gail was born to Leslie and Dora Jane Bass (Chapman) on September 26, 1959 in Granby, MO. Gail attended La Russell School for 1st grade and then attended Sarcoxie through his senior year. He graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1977.

In August of 1978 Gail married Kimberley Haizlip. Later that year they welcomed their son, Leslie James “Jamey” Bass.

In 1983 Gail joined the Jasper County Posse and in 2003 he retired as Captain at the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office.

He spent 20 years protecting and serving the people of Jasper, Newton and the surrounding counties. Gail loved his career and helping people. In his lengthy career he received multiple awards and certifications. Some of his career highlights include, working several high profile homicides resulting in a death row sentence, testified before the State of Missouri Board of Representatives two times, rated “excellent” in marksmanship, and was recognized on most cases he served on. He held his head high and proud in the face of adversity during challenging times at Jasper County. He did not participate in the current state of overbearing police tacticsand politics. He was an exemplary detective and all around servant to the area. We thank him for his service.

Gail had a passion for music. Music from the 1970’s was his absolute favorite. He loved all animals. Especially his two Bassett hounds, Ellie and Rufus, and anything John Wayne. He coached many youth sports teams and if he wasn’t found on the sidelines he was in the stands at every game of his sons and daughters. He loved his kids fiercely and it showed in his unwavering support of them.

Gail is preceded in death by his sister, Debbie.

He is survived by his son Jamey and wife April, Dallas, TX, daughter Kacey and husband Tim, Carthage, MO; parents, Leslie and Dora Jane Sarcoxie, MO, 3 grandchildren Everett (10) and Kendrick Bass (3) and Erin Dragoo (8 mo), aunts, numerous cousins.

Funeral service for Gail will be September 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, with Pastor Don Sullivan officiating. Family will accept guests wishing to fellowship and honor Gail at Kacey’s house following the service.
