Lois Jones

(From Parker Mortuary)

Lois I. Jones 83. Surrounded by family, Lois passed away peacefully to begin her new journey with the Lord on Wednesday, September 19, 2018. She blessed the world and her parents Leo and Nellie Buchanan with her arrival on March 2, 1935 in Springfield, MO.

She grew up with four brothers; Gordon, Ray, Wendell and Charles, and two sisters Wilma and Alice. She excelled in school and was Valedictorian of her class. Loving to sing, she often teamed up with her sisters singing Alto. She married her high school sweetheart Harold Dean and together they had 5 children that she cherished, (even if they were always testing her and keeping her on her toes). She was a fantastic cook and always made sure that no one went away from the table hungry.

She loved the simple life and her love of music never ended. After moving with her family, to Las Vegas, NV in 1969, she often found herself unwinding for the day by partaking in a Las Vegas lounge show. Her absolute favorite was Willie (Nelson) and Waylon (Jennings). She would watch and listen to them, seated just a couple feet away and for a two drink minimum, it was as if they were singing only to her with the intimate lounge show setting. Besides country music, she also loved classical and opera and was fortunate enough to see Pavarotti in concert twice.

While it was music that got her through the best and the worst of times in her life, her real TRUE LOVE was books. Her incredible thirst for knowledge was always present, which in turn led to a collection of books that would make even the biggest library envious. Some she read, some she didn't and some she just skimmed through, but nevertheless, her love for books was obvious. They gave her comfort and she could tell you what each book was about and even tell you a little history about each author. A memory that will NEVER be forgotten was the smile on her face and the laughter in her heart every time she would tell her four remaining children, "Now, be sure to split all my books evenly between you kids".

She worked many years as a dispatcher for the Henderson, NV Police Department receiving numerous awards and accolades for her service. Upon her retirement she moved back to her roots in Missouri where she lived out her final years in the country. Even at the age of 83, it was common to see her riding around 10 acres on the back of her zero turn mower and it was nothing for her to walk along, barefoot in the grass, and yell...."Here's another one", as she bent down to pick ANOTHER 4-leaf clover.

She was preceded in death by her parents Leo and Nellie Buchanan. Brothers; Gordon, Ray and Charles Buchanan; sister Wilma Tuckness and youngest son John Jones, along with ex-remained friend Harold Jones and Grandchildren Haley Jones and Shellie Hulet.

She is survived by her daughters Cathy Jensen (D.C.) and Melanie Nelson, sons Bart Jones (Bonnie) and Kevin Jones (Holly). Sister Alice Serrano (Mel) and Brother Wendell Buchanan, along with 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. There will be no service scheduled at this time. Her favorite season was Spring and there will be a Celebration of her Life scheduled at a later date.

She always had a rescue pup or kitty in her life. She leaves behind 6 fur babies; Noah, Jillie, KitKat, Midnight, Sammie and Sadie. It would be a Blessing if you might consider a donation to your favorite animal shelter or rescue in all of their honor.
