Opal Davis

Opal J. Davis, 92, of Lamar, MO, passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018. She was born October 7, 1925 in Sarcoxie, MO, to Roy Benjamin Rice and Mary Sophia Burggraf Rice. She was one of nine children. She graduated from Lamar High School in 1943.

Opal was employed as an administrative assistant at Barton County Memorial Hospital, working there over 40 years until her retirement.

Opal would bake and decorate cookies, especially during the holidays. She and her sister Clara made 1000’s of them! When Clara was unable to, Opal continued the tradition of “Mrs. Cline’s cookies”. That tradition continues with her daughter Kim. Opal loved to garden, spend time with her grandchildren and attend their sporting events and school programs. 

She is survived by her children Franklin Davis and Kimberly Howarth (Brent), 7 grandchildren; Curtiss Davis (Autumn), Jessica Gilmet (Joe), Cody Davis, Sophia Davis, Brenton Howarth (Julie), Blake Howarth (Emily) and Kaleigh Howarth; 9 great-grandchildren; A.J. Davis, Cici Davis, Joslyn Gilmet, Jolene Gilmet, Zaiden Howarth, Ryker Howarth, Leighton Howarth, Briley Howarth and Allison Howarth. She is survived by her sister; Ruth Rodgers. Preceding her in death was an infant son; Clarence Davis, her parents, her childrens father Franklin Davis, SR. and siblings; Richard Rice, Edward Rice, Raymond Rice, Evert Rice, Essie Rice, Margaret Stockdale and Clara Cline.

Donations to the family can be given in care of the funeral home.

Service: 10:00 AM Friday, September 21, 2018 Konantz Warden Funeral Home

Interment: Sheldon Cemetery
