Leon Russell Williams, Sr., age 78, Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018.
Leon was born August 10, 1940 in Hannibal, Missouri, son of the late Paul Earl Williams and Elizabeth Ann Bowen Williams. He attended school in Kansas City, MO for his HVAC license before moving to Colorado where he owned and operated B & L Refrigeration. He retired and moved to Joplin in 1993, where he continued working for many people doing HVAC work, and other side jobs when he was not on the lake fishing. He enjoyed loving on people and had a very outgoing personality. He delighted in serving and sharing Jesus with everyone, and especially with his friends at Watered Gardens. He was an active member of the Christian Church of Carl Junction.
In addition to his parents, Leon was preceded in death by his wife, Betty I. Legg Williams who died May 27, 2013, and two brothers, Frank and Lee.
Survivors include his sons, Russell Williams, Jr., Robert Williams, and David Williams and wife JoAnne all of Belen, New Mexico, and Jim Rhoades and wife Angie of Seneca, Missouri; daughters, Teresa Richardson and husband Dan of Joplin, and Lisa O'Hanahan and husband Mick of Carl Junction, Missouri; sister, Linda Edmondson and husband Derek of Washington; 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Carl Junction Christian Church with Pastor Adam Jones and Boyce Mouton officiating. Interment will follow in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ninos de Mexico, or the Watered Gardens of Joplin.
