Audrey Ward

Audrey Lea Ward, age 89, Carl Junction, passed away at her residence on July 19, 2019. Audrey was born November 10, 1929 to Herbert and Marguerite Sandy. 

Audrey was instrumental in starting the first kindergarten class for the Carl Junction School District. She was a charter member of the Briarbrook County Club and the Briarbrook Ladies Golf Association. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star-Carl Junction. She was active in Girl Scouts for many years, and she worked at the Carl Junction Post Office until she retired. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and most recently a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Carl Junction. Audrey was an active member in the Carl Junction community and loved her Bulldogs. She enjoyed reading and attending her grandchildren’s activities. She was the epitome of strength, class, elegance, spirit; and loved by many. 

She married the love of her life, Alan Dean “Sid” Ward, on June 5, 1949. They were married 52 years. He preceded her in death in 2001. 

Audrey is survived by her daughter Cheryl Ward Hicks of Carl Junction; her sisters Lily Ash and Jeanette Verbryck, of Carl Junction; sister-in law Denise Sandy, of Pennsylvania; and Lois Cupp, Wichita Kansas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Chris Patterson (wife Stephanie) of Carl Junction, Sydney Anselmi (husband Jacob) of Pittsburg, Kansas, Samuel Ward, Colorado, Darrell Hicks, Jr. (wife Carla) of Webb City, Melissa Neblett (husband Keith) of Carl Junction; and her great grandchildren, Jackson Patterson, Austin Daniel (wife Jordan), Addison Daniel, Ty Hicks, Kade Hicks, Lauren Hicks, Dawsyn Hicks, Tanner Neblett (wife Amanda), and Justin Hicks (wife Amanda); and four great-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

Audrey is also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Russell A. Ward; a brother, Steven Sandy; and son-in-law, Darrell Hicks, Sr. 

 Services will be Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at 1:00 PM at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Pastor Bob Simon officiating. The family will be present for a visitation on Monday from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Simpson Funeral Home in Carl Junction. Burial will follow services at Carl Junction Cemetery.Pallbearers shall be Chris Patterson, Jacob Anselmi, Darrell Hicks, Jr., Keith Neblett, Jackson Patterson, Ty Hicks, Kade Hicks, Tanner Neblett and Justin Hicks. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church in her memory.
