Etta Thomas

With love and appreciation for her life we announce the death of Ella Orchard Thomas, Tuesday July 23, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. 

Ella was born on August 2, 1921 in Waterborough, New Brunswick, Canada. She was the daughter of the late A. Scott Orchard and Cora Mott Orchard. 

Ella is survived by her nieces Irene (Carl) Thorne, Barb Ekstrom (late Randy), nephew Neil (Linda) Orchard and many great nieces and nephews all of New Brunswick, Canada. Ella was the last surviving member of her family. 

In addition to her parents, Ella was pre deceased by her son Frederick and his father Eugene Thomas. Also sister Marguerite Orchard Delahunt (Ed), brother Ralph Orchard (Kay), niece Carol Orchard Stuart (Dwight), and great nephew Peter Orchard. 

Ella left home at age 16, in 1937, (without as much as a purse on her arm she always told us) to study hairdressing in Bangor, Maine. After living many places in the USA with Eugene and their son Frederick, Ella settled in Webb City with the Thomas family. Ella worked many years at the clothing factory. After her retirement she cared for many senior friends with love and compassion. Ella continued to visit her family in Canada until her eighties and they enjoyed frequent trips to Missouri. Ella will be missed by her family, very close friend Ottilie Hinderliter and her family, friend Jonne Legg. 

Graveside services will be held on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Webb City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the National Association of American Veterans, P.O. Box 6865, Washington, DC 20020-0565 in her memory.
