Stephen Darnell

Stephen Ray Darnell, 66, of Joplin, MO passed from this life on Thursday, July 18, 2019 at his home unexpectedly.

Steve was born on March 3, 1953 in Columbus, Kansas to the union of Paul Arden and Alveen (Cool) Darnell. Steve graduated form Picher High School class of 1971. He then graduated from Pittsburg State and University of Texas. He worked in multiple hospitals as a perfusionist, retiring in 2017 from Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO.

Steve was active with Meals on Wheels in Joplin, serving food every Wednesday. He was a member of the Wildcat Glades Friends Group. He enjoyed lounging by the pool, taking walks with his dog Wilma, and loved to watch the History Channel and Fox News, while browsing through Facebook chat.

Steve was united in marriage to Trish (Noah) Darnell on September 4, 2015 in Baxter Springs, KS. She survives of the home.








Additional survivors include two sons, Blake Darnell and wife Erin of Austin, TX, Chase Darnell and wife Ashley of Austin, TX; one daughter, Pam Doll and husband Aaron of Joplin, MO; step-son, Josh Glass and wife Sascha of Rogers, AR; three brothers, Neal Darnell and wife Marilyn of Springfield, MO, Kenneth Darnell and wife Debbie of Kansas City, MO, and Brad Darnell and wife Sheri of Springfield, MO; along with 10 grandchildren.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Alveen Darnell.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 24, 2019 at Bethel Church, Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Mark Kerr will officiate. Family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m., until service time at the church. Steve has been entrusted to Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel for cremation. Memorial donations may be made to Joplin Senior Center (Meals on Wheels) in care of the funeral home or they may be mailed to Joplin Senior Center, 2616 S. Picher Ave, Joplin, MO 64804.
