Laura Correll

(From Carson-Wall Funeral Home)

Laura Correll, 90, of Oswego, died at 12:15 a.m., Sunday, July 28, 2019 at her home.

Anna Laura Correll was born April 21, 1929 in Grandfield, Oklahoma to W. D. and Hilda (Logsdon) Callicott. The family moved to Lawton, Oklahoma where Laura attended school, graduating from Lawton High School.

After graduation, while working as a secretary, she met a young soldier stationed at Ft. Sill by the name of Vernon Correll. They were married on December 19, 1948 in Lawton. Immediately following the wedding they moved to Oswego, where they made their home the remainder of their lives.

Laura and Vernon had two daughters, Cheryl Lewis (Steve) of Oswego and Julie Blankenship (David) of Webb City, Missouri; four grandchildren, Janna Olson (Kevin), Ty Lewis (Nikki), Laurie Crocker and Sara Hoffman (Dustin), 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandsons and a great-great granddaughter expected in September.

Laura started work at the Edward A. Sauter Abstract Company in 1951 and worked there until she and Vernon bought the business in 1967 and renamed it Realty, Inc. She continued to work there until retirement. She was a licensed abstractor in the State of Kansas for over 60 years, a record she was very proud of.

She was a member of Lady Lions, Beta Sigma Phi and was active in First Baptist Church of Oswego until ill health kept her home. She was always busy. She was busy at work but always had “busy work” going with her hands at home, doing sewing, crocheting, cross-stitch, etc. which she gave to family and friends. She later discovered her talent with watercolors.

Laura’s true loves, though, were Vernie and her family. She gave endlessly to the needs and desires of her widespread family. She had a knack for making each grandchild feel like they were “the favorite”. Family gatherings were one of her greatest joys. Every member of the family knew Laura had their back as she was a fierce defender of those she loved, just another part of her unfailing love and support of them.

A graveside service for friends and family will be held at 4 p.m., Saturday, August 17, 2019 at the Oswego Cemetery. Following the service the family will have a private gathering at the cabin.
Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Oswego. The Carson-Wall Funeral Home of Parsons is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be left at or sent to the funeral home at Box 942, Parsons, KS 67357. Online messages may be left at www.wallfuneralservices.com.
