Jay Thomas Polen, age 23, of Joplin, Missouri, passed from this life on July 25th, 2019.
Jay was born on August 29, 1995 to Richard and Brenda Polen. His passion in life was chasing storms with his closest friends and capturing the power of weather with photography. He was known for his courageous spirit, determination to pursue his calling, and joy in the midst of the storm. When he was not storm chasing, Jay could be found fishing or hunting with friends. He also had a soft spot for the occasional stray kitten, and it was not uncommon for him to come home with a new furry friend wrapped in his jacket.
He is survived by his father, Richard Polen; mother, Brenda Polen; sister, Rachael Polen; grandparents, Thomas and Geraldine Painter, all from Joplin, as well as a multitude of extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Autism Speaks in care of the mortuary.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 1, 2019 at Round Grove Cemetery near Lockwood, Mo.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
