Jerry Lee Starkweather, age 81, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at Landmark Hospital in Joplin.
Jerry was born May 6, 1938 in Riverton, Kansas, son of the late Carl L. Starkweather and Pauline Potter Starkweather. He moved to Joplin as a child, and attended Joplin Schools, graduating from Joplin High School. He worked for 31 years with Consolidated Freightways as a driver before retiring in 1999. He then went to work for Freeman Hospital in the purchasing department, and with Chick-fil-A of Joplin. He was an active member of Fellowship Baptist Church where he served as a greeter. Jerry was involved with his children's and grandchildren's activities, he always supported Joplin and Missouri Southern Athletics, and was a longtime St. Louis Cardinals fan.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by a daughter, Cathy Starkweather, and a brother, Don Starkweather.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, the former Linda Williams, whom he married on May 17, 1960; two sons, Rick Starkweather and wife Nancy, and Jeff Starkweather and wife Kelli, all of Joplin; six grandchildren, Jordan Starkweather and wife Mitzi, Graham Starkweather, Chase Starkweather, Josh Barnett and fiance Shelia, Rebecca Barnett, and Nickolas Barnett all of Joplin; five great-grandchildren, Shelby, A.J , Libby, Mariah, and Maggie; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral service will be Saturday, October 5, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church with Rev. Rob Signs and Rev. Tim Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery with family serving as pallbearers, and Pastor Ken Cox officiating.
The family will receive friends at Fellowship Baptist Church on Friday, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Fellowship Baptist Church of Joplin, or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
