Nova Elaine Butler, 67, of Anderson, Missouri, daughter of the late JW and Nadine Butler (Martin), was born May 16, 1952 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She fought a difficult battle with cancer and finally won victoriously when she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on January 7, 2020, with loving family by her side at the home of her sister, Marcella, in Anderson, Missouri.
Elaine married Bob Christerson in 1970 and to this union one son was born.
In 1976 she was united in marriage to Jim Payne and together they had one daughter. She and Jim bought land west of Anderson and moved from Springfield in 1990, where they continued to work on their property by clearing it, making a home in the country, farming, and raised rabbits for a time. She enjoyed spending time outdoors, camping, fishing, gardening, and hands-on projects. She also enjoyed spending time with her children, attending their extracurricular activities, and sporting events.
She was an LPN and worked at Ferrell Duncan Clinic in Springfield, Park Central Hospital in Springfield, a dialysis clinic in Joplin, Gravette Medical Center Hospital, clinics in McDonald County for Dr. David Hill, and the nursing home in Anderson.
Elaine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband - Jim Payne; her son - Michael Don Christerson.
Survivors include a daughter Jamie Lea (Payne) Spurgeon and husband, Toby, of Goodman, MO, her late son, Michael’s children, who considered her mom and she raised as her own: Shelby Hunter Christerson, Sedalia, MO; Stormy Dawn (Christerson) Greathouse and husband Spencer, Bolivar, MO; Spencer Cameron Christerson, Joplin, MO; four sisters, Jeanene Mathia (Jim), Marcella Wasson, Susan Talley (Jerry), Debbie Smith, and grandchildren - Shawn Michael, Christopher James, and Christina Elaine Payne, as well as a host of other family and friends who will truly miss her and will forever be blessed by her inspirational life.
Services will be held at 1:00 pm Friday, January 10, 2020 at Crosswired Cowboy Church in Grove, Oklahoma with Pastor Russell Brisco officiating. Burial will follow at New Bethel Cemetery, Anderson, with Spencer Greathouse, Steve Wasson, Heath Carlton, Daniel Talley, Gary Wasson and Marcus Pratt serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson on Thursday, January 9, 2020.
