Eddie McKay

Edwin E. 'Eddie' McKay Jr., age 91, Joplin, passed away Monday, January 27, 2020 at his home after a sudden illness.

Eddie was born November 23, 1928 in Joplin, Missouri to the late Edwin Edward McKay, Sr. (1943) and Dova Killebrew McKay (1963) and had lived in the Joplin area most of his life.

He was a graduate of the University of Arkansas with a degree in mechanical engineering.

Eddie worked as a golf professional, mechanical engineer and farmer. He loved the outdoors and was an avid sportsman and conservationist. Eddie was a gifted golfer, angler, contract tournament bridge player and a Missouri state duck calling champion.

Eddie was a member of the Twin Hills Country Club for 63 years. He was an eight-time winner of the Twin Hills Club Championship, a three-time runner up in the Twin Hills Invitational in 1964, 1973, 1975 and runner up in the Joplin Globe City Championship in 1976. Eddie was also a regular on the Horton Smith and Ky Laffoon Cup teams. He was inducted into the Joplin Golf Hall of Fame in 1989.

Eddie was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the Korean Military Advisory Group during the Korean War. He was a member of the Joplin VFW Post 534, American Legion Post 1000 and Elks Lodge 501.

He will be missed by everyone that knew and loved him.








Survivors include two sons, Robert McKay and wife, Terry, Joplin, Hugh McKay and wife, Deanna, Jefferson City; a daughter, Missy Witter and husband, Fred, Branson; his loving companion, Gayle McAllister; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Eddie was preceded in death by a brother, George Leonard Ott (1991).

A memorial visitation is planned for Saturday from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at Mount Hope Cemetery Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a charity of choice.
