Burney Ray Hodson, age 63 of Carthage, MO passed away on Monday, January. 6, 2020 at Mercy Hospital of Joplin, Missouri.
Burney was born May 16, 1956 in Carthage, Missouri, son of the late Marvin Hodson and Janette Hodson of Carthage. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1974, and went to work for Leggett & Platt in Carthage. He worked there for 45 years before retiring as a Quality Assurance Manager.
He loved working on older cars, and restoring antique vehicles. He was very proud of his 1931 Model A, and was involved with other car enthusiasts working with the Maple Leaf Parade helping organize the antique cars. His mechanical skills opened many opportunities to work on, and help restore old cars, motorcycles, and lawnmowers. He had a real passion for hit-N-miss antique motor projects. He loved working on any old engine or car. He also loved to dance and sing karaoke. There is nothing more he enjoyed than being a papa.
In addition to his father, Burney was preceded in death by brother, Donald David Hodson; and a sister, Delana Hodson Shipley.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine ”Kathy” Byrd Hodson, whom he married in 1994; children, Dusty Hodson of Carthage, Ashley Kritikos (Rex) of Carthage, Brandy Kissel (Trey) of Neosho, and Bryan Baker of Carthage; his mother, Janette Hodson of Carthage, sister, Mary Hodson Terry of Carthage; seven grandchildren, Taylor Buerge, Klayton Kollmeyer, Landon Buerge, Ashton Riley, Michael Kissel, Max Kissel, and Myles Baker; several nieces and nephews.
Memorial service will be Wednesday January 15th at 3:00 PM in Grace Episcopal Church of Carthage with The Rev. Steven Clark Wilson officiating.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
