Phillip Kyte

Phillip Allen Kyte, of rural Carthage, died Sunday January 26, 2020 at home following a battle with cancer. He was born June 6, 1961, the son of Warren Kyte and JoAnna “Jody” (Dyer) Kyte.

He graduated from Carthage High School in 1979. After high school he attended Crowder College on a baseball scholarship. He also attended Central Missouri State, Georgia Institute of Technology and Crowder College Drivers Training Program. Phillip worked for Atlas Powder, Leggett & Platt, Carthage Underground Americold Logistics, Renewable Environmental Solutions, EBV-EEC Explosives. Then he became a truck driver for Hiland Dairy foods, Ag-Choice in Weir, KS and Don’s Cold Storage in Webb City.

Phillip loved sports and was a member of several Little League, high school, American Legion and college baseball teams, which he won several awards as pitcher. He also played junior high and high school football and was a member of the Carthage 1978 Conference Championship Team. As an adult, he coached Little League Baseball and YMCA Youth Basketball.

Phillip was preceded in death by his father, Warren Kyte.

Survivors include one son, Travis Kyte and fiancé Bridget Sears; his mother, JoAnna “Jody” Kyte; two brothers, Greg Kyte and wife Mary and Richard Kyte all of rural Carthage, along with several nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 1st at Ulmer Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to services. Burial will be at Paradise Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Carthage R-9 Foundation, the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society in care of Ulmer Funeral Home.
