Mr. Michael Adrian Leonard, Sr., 37, of Clarksville, Tennessee, formerly of Carl Junction, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, January 26, 2020, as a result of a tragic scuba diving accident near Mt. Juliet, Tennessee.
Michael was born on August 31, 1982, in Springfield, Missouri, to Carey and Carol (McGinnis) Leonard. Michael served in the United States Army for seven years and seven months, which included a tour of duty in the Iraqi War. He was a Senior Medic at Camp Liberty in Bagdad. He was stationed out of Fort Campbell in Clarksville, Tennessee.
He earned a Master’s of Science Degree in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was Retail Manager and Instructor for Waterdogs Scuba and Safety, LLC in Clarksville, Tennessee. Michael was an avid scuba diver and enjoyed fishing and kayaking. He loved spending time with his children and was excited about his upcoming marriage to Shannelle.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Cleve Leonard; and maternal grandparents, Junior and Nancy McGinnis.
Michael is survived by his three children, Adriana, Serenity Jo and Michael Jr. all of Clarksville, Tennessee; his parents, Carey and Carol Leonard of Carl Junction, Missouri; three sisters, Julie Marshall and husband, Matt, of Carl Junction, Patricia Boyd of Farmington, Missouri and Michelle Andrews of Joplin; paternal grandmother, Jo Leonard of Joplin; a niece and nephew, Marcie and Matthew Marshall; five additional nieces and two nephews; his fiancé and love of his life, Shannelle D.B. Serrano of the Philippines; as well as a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services are 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at Byers Ave. United Methodist Church in Joplin, Missouri with Pastor Chuck Kralik officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at 12:00 noon at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri.
Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Richard Holladay, Chris Eley, Fitz Dickson, Matthew Marshall, Jr., Joe Maynard, David Bebout, Timothy Horton and Jason Somerville. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5-7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
