Delbert Fanning

Delbert N. “Bud” Fanning, of Lamar, MO, departed this life on Sunday, January 19, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Community Care and Rehabilitation Facility in Lockwood, MO at the age of 85.

He was born on April 7, 1934 in Golden City, MO to Delbert C. and Ora L. (Holtsclaw) Fanning. Delbert graduated from Golden City High School in 1952.

He was united in marriage to Lena Mae Patterson on May 15, 1955 in Golden City, MO. Delbert retired from Beachner Seed Company in Lamar as a manager and buyer. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Golden City. Delbert was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed watching and listening to baseball games, especially the Kansas City Royals. Delbert was a collector of baseball cards, Hot Wheels, and Coca Cola memorabilia. He treasured his granddaughters and loved spending time with them.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Delbert and Ora Fanning; his son, Michael Eugene Fanning; brother-in-law, William James, granddaughter, Christy Leanna Zuber; and sister-in-law, Eugenia (Brasher) Fanning.

Survivors include his wife, Lena Mae Fanning; four daughters, Ima Jean Probert and husband Tom; Kathy Louella Fanning, Becky Colleen Ritchey and husband Chuck, and Tonie Rena Probert and husband Victor; two granddaughters, Amanda (Zuber) Harris and husband Jeff and Hannah (Probert) Shaw and husband Travis; one great-granddaughter, Blakely Renee Shaw; two sisters, Jaunita James and Mary Lou York and husband Glen; one brother, Gene Fanning and wife Sue; six nieces; one nephew; two great-nieces; and six great-nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 23, 2020 at the First Christian Church of Golden City. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. First Christian Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m. until service time in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
