Jan Lea Smith of Carl Junction passed from this life on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at her home, she was 80.
Jan was born on February 23, 1939 in Wentworth, Missouri to John Vincent and Surillda Jane (Byers) Willoughby. She graduated high school and went on to get her degree in cosmetology and became an instructor. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs, Kansas and a member of the International Hair Dressers.
She married Jimmy Smith in Quapaw on January 31, 1956 he survives of the home.
Jan is also survived by one daughter, Tamera Jane Sweeton and husband Stan of Olathe, Kansas, two sons Russell Stephen Smith of Joplin, Missouri and Michael Todd Smith and wife Cathy of Baxter Springs, Kansas. She is also survived by six grandchildren Dr. Jennifer Sweeton and husband Tim of Overland Park, Kansas, Matthew Smith and wife Lacie of Carl Junction, Zachary Smith and wife Brittany of Kansas City, Tori Parsons of Baxter Springs, Kansas, Peyton Smith of Baxter Springs, Kansas and Jack Smith of Baxter Springs, Kansas.
Jan is preceded in death by her two brothers Carl Byers, Johnny Willoughby and four sisters Hester Garrison, Letha Dalton, Annie Crampton and Norma Goff.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs Kansas with Rev. Jeff Street officiating. A visitation will be held an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin, Missouri.
