Freddie Cooper

Freddie J. Cooper, MSG (Ret) US Army, Granby, went home to the Lord on his 81st birthday, January 4, 2020 from complications of cancer. Freddie was born January 4, 1939 in Granby, the son of Alvin and Ollie (Tuggle) Cooper.

While in high school he served in the Army Reserves. He graduated from Granby High School and entered active Army service in 1963 where he served primarily as a Personnel Sergeant. Overseas assignments included a tour of duty to Vietnam and two tours to both Italy and Germany. 

Other assignments included: Dallas and Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Sheridan, Illinois; Ft. Lewis, Washington; Ft. Bragg, North Caroline; Ft. Wainwright, Alaska and Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, Colorado. Freddie Cooper's military awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Army Commendation Medal with 5 Oak Leaf Clusters; Vietnam Campaign Medal with 2 battle stars; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm; 2 Overseas Medals; Good Conduct Medal, 6th Award; Army Service Ribbon; Overseas Service Medal; NCO Professional Development Ribbon with 3 device; Driver/Mechanics Badge and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar and Meritorious Service Medal. 

Following his retirement from the military he attended and graduated from Crowder College, where he also served as veterans liaison. He then worked at Steve's Trading Post until his final retirement. Freddie was an avid gun collector, enjoyed hunting elk and deer and was a classic car enthusiast. Freddie accepted the Lord as his Savior when he was 19 and was a former member of the First Baptist Church, Granby, where he served on several committees and was a current member of Sweetwater Baptist Church, Granby. 

Freddie married Janice Lee Savage on May 30, 1958 and she preceded him in death on June 1, 2003. He then married Marilyn (Hudson) Rowe on November 1, 2003 and she survives. 

Additional survivors include five children, Carri (Chris) Thier of Atlanta, Georgia; Cristi Trowbridge of Neosho; Benjamin (Tracy) Cooper of Granby; Kacee (Josh) Westfall of Neosho and David (Amy) Rowe of Carthage and stepson, Wayne (Carolyn) Rowe of Cowetta, Oklahoma; three brothers, Frank (Naomi) Cooper of Lees Summit, Missouri, Edward (Gail) Cooper of Granby and Jackie (Phyllis) Cooper of Granby; one sister, Doris Rogers (Richard Warren) of Smithville, Missouri; tn grandchildren, Chelsea Duncan, Kaley Routledge, Caleb Freeland, Cole Cooper, Grant Cooper, Gage Trowbridge, Erin Cooper, Peyton Cooper, Dylan Westfall and Franky Donahoo; two great grandchildren, Taryn Casey and Jack Routledge and brother in law, R.J. (Elaine) Savage.
