Gary Dee Young, age 74 passed away at 11:25 pm Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Gary was born February 12, 1945 in Joplin, MO. His parents were William Andrew and Oma Eugene (Lake) Young. He was a lifetime resident of Galena.
He worked in the warehouse for Joplin School System for 22 years, retiring in 2001. He was currently employed at Oasis Car Wash, Galena, KS. He was a member of Empire Mission Church, Galena, KS and had been an active member of the Cherokee Outlaws Car Club. His interests included old cars and motorcycles.
Gary was married to Phyllis N. (Smallwood) Musgrave on November 20, 2003 in Las Vegas, NV. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Brenton Young (Billie), Galena, and Chris John Young (Dana), Galena; two daughters, Luenda Martin (Randy), Riverton, and Heather Spitler, Ponca City, OK; three step-children, Chad Musgrave (LeAnn), Galena, Richard Musgrave, Riverton, and Jacqueline Oxford (Gary) Redings Mill, MO; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 siblings, Bill, Bob, Lois, Annie, Mary Lou, and Betty Sue.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Friday, February 7, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena.
Funeral service will be at 7:00 pm, Friday, February 7, 2020 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. Pastor Donna Maybee will officiate.
