(From Clark Funeral Home)Alma Jane (Rowland) Schwartz, 80, Joplin, Missouri, entered into rest on June 25, 2021 in Joplin, surrounded by family, following an extended illness.
Alma was born Nov. 22, 1940 in New Blaine, Arkansas, the daughter of John H. and Emma Jane (Hixson) Rowland. She was raised in Paris, Arkansas and graduated from Paris High School in 1958. She lived in Fort Smith, AR and Neosho, MO during her marriage and raised 3 children.
In 1987 she relocated to Stillwater, Oklahoma for nearly 30 years and then returned to the Joplin area. While in Stillwater, she served as a housemother at Oklahoma State University for Delta Zeta sorority and Delta Chi fraternity. She loved being a house parent to so many wonderful college students and her extensive knowledge of managing such large homes was utilized periodically by other houses including Zeta Tau Alpha and Pi Beta Phi sororities.
She was a master seamstress, making many clothing items, blankets and doll clothes in her spare time. Alma was a loving mother and grandmother and her greatest joy was spending time with her family and her fur baby ‘Pepper’.
She is survived by two children, Sheila (Jerry) Parsons of Neosho and Grant (Ann) Schwartz of Joplin; five grandchildren, Nicholas Schwartz, Savannah Parsons, Spencer Parsons, Kennedy Schwartz and Sophia Schwartz and two sisters, Joanna Glass of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Martha Schwartz of Lexington, South Carolina.
She is preceded in death by a son, Eugene (Bubba) Schwartz Jr. and her parents.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at a later date. Contributions in memory of Alma may be made to the American Cancer Society, c/o Clark Funeral Home, PO Box 66; Neosho, MO 64850.
