(From Ozark Funeral Home)Gary Ray Thomas, 86 of Anderson passed away June 14th, 2021 at his home. Gary was born in Albaton, Iowa and was the son of the late Harley and Eva Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years Mary Dixine Thomas in 2014.
He is survived by his four daughters, Lynn Schlessman and husband Robert of Caverna, MO; Lori Farley of Mobile, AL; Lee Holland and husband Tim of Gentry, AR; Sue Buttram and husband John of Anderson, MO; one sister Bev Roarson of Sloan, Iowa, fourteen grandchildren and twenty four great grandchildren.
Gary was a veteran of the Navy, serving from 1952 – 1956 as an electrician. During this time he traveled to several countries and had many stories to share. He and Dixie spent many years involved in their children’s hobbies of horses, rodeos, fairs, snow-skiing trips, sports, and then with the grandchildren.
He was a farmer most of his life but also sold real estate at Dixieland Realty with Dixie in Jane, MO. After retirement they traveled all over the country and settled in Grove, OK where they had the best garden around where they sold fresh produce from the shed. They always had many friends wherever they landed. He attended the Cayuga Mission Church in Grove, OK before moving to Anderson where he attended Banner Church of Goodman, MO.
Like one of the grandchildren said, “he was the anchor of our family” while another said “he gave the best hugs and kisses on the cheek.” He always wanted to be the gruff old guy but kids and dogs loved him and he loved them as well. He led our family by example and all of us will be forever grateful for all he was.
