Barbara Brockschmidt

Barbara Jean (Wilkins) Brockschmidt, 87, passed away on June 23, 2021 at The Manor at Elfindale in Springfield, MO. She was born in Racine, MO on October 2, 1933, the daughter of Carl and Letha Wilkins. 

Barbara graduated from Joplin High School in 1951, and then attended Joplin Business College. After graduation, she moved to St. Louis, MO where she met and married John Brockschmidt on May 24, 1969. They enjoyed a three month honeymoon traveling through Europe. Both were employed at McDonnell Douglas Corporate Headquarters upon their return to St. Louis.






 

John and Barbara moved to Santa Monica, CA where they lived for 18 years. Barbara worked as Office Manager and Assistant to the President of several corporations. While living there, she and John enjoyed exploring California, and traveling to other countries. Barbara and John served as Elders, and were active in Brentwood Presbyterian Church, where Barbara also sang in the choir.

In 1988, John and Barbara relocated to Springfield, MO, so they could be near both of their parents. In Springfield, they enjoyed volunteering at Hammons Hall, with Master Gardeners and other organizations. John passed away of brain cancer in 2009. Barbara continued to volunteer and give to her favorite organizations. She especially had a heart for the Spay and Neuter animal organizations as well as Harmony House, and organizations helping Veterans. She enjoyed attending the Lander’s Theatre and the Springfield Symphony. She was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Springfield.

Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John, as well as her parents. She was blessed with a loving family or aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was also blessed with many longtime friends in Joplin, St. Louis, California, and Springfield.

A celebration of Barbara’s life will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at 12:00 Noon at Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home with Pastor Joe Morris officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Burial will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery.

A good steward of God’s blessings, Barbara gave quietly and generously to a number of local charitable organizations. Barbara’s wish it that you give a gift to your favorite animal charity.
