(From Parker Mortuary)Charles Stoneberg, 94, of Joplin formerly of Abilene, Texas, went to be with his Lord in Heaven on Saturday, July 3, 2021 while at his home.
Charles Gayden Stoneberg was born September 17, 1926 east of Eden,Texas in McCullough County to the late John and Emma (Cochran) Stoneberg.
He was united in marriage with Frances Beckham October 21, 1996 in Hornet, MO and they enjoyed more than 24 loving years together. She preceded him in passing on June 28, 2021.
Charles (Charlie) served in the army during World War II from 1945 -1948 and was stationed in Korea for the majority of the time. Charlie retired from the Abilene, Texas Fire Dept. in 1975. He also was a retired electronics technician. He was a member of Spring City Baptist Church in Joplin, Missouri.
He enjoyed many different activities, interests and hobbies over the years. Often times he could be found reading the Holy Bible or working on his own unique Bible study to share with everyone from friends & family to other church members and neighbors alike. He loved tinkering with electronics and also had a passion for woodworking.
So much so, that, while living in Pierce City, MO he converted a garage into his very own woodshop. Charlie's shop was complete with tables & benches, many power tools and seemingly every type of hand tool that his grandchildren could ever imagine. He had a deep love for music especially Elvis. This lead him to play many instruments such as the piano, accordion, banjo & guitar. An avid photographer, he even developed his own photos for a while. He also enjoyed gardening and painting with Bob Ross.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Emma Stoneberg; his wife Clara Harris; and his wife Frances; 2 brothers, J.D. Stoneberg and Arthur Stoneberg; 1 sister, Marie Griggs.
He is survived by two daughters: Sherry Stanley of Monett, Missouri and Janet Johnson of Abilene, Texas; stepson, Sam Gum (Tammy), 2 stepdaughters, Paula Beckham & Rose Barwick, all of Joplin; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren (and one on the way; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a host of step grand and great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Charles is being held on Wednesday, July 13, 2021 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Parker Mortuary located at 1502 S. Joplin Ave., Joplin, MO. Funeral services are being held on Thursday, July 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Spring City Baptist Church, 6086 Dutch Elm Dr., Joplin, MO. Interment will be at Hornet Cemetery on Coyote Dr., Hornet, MO.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting donations be made to Spring City Baptist Church.
