Slim Johnson

Cecil “Slim” Lavaughn Johnson of Carl Junction, MO passed away Sunday, July 4, 2021.

Slim was born October 8, 1921 in Stark City, MO to Thomas and Poca (Gold) Johnson. He married Virginia Millard on June 22, 1946. “The meanest old red head he ever lived with.” She preceded him in death after almost 69 years of marriage. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter, Shari Carney.








A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He proudly served in War World II in the south Pacific. After the war, Slim went on to work for Southwestern Bell Telephone company. He started as a lineman and worked his way into a management position, retiring after 36 years. Slim was an avid outdoorsman, spending his days quail hunting. Once the quail were scarce, he began fishing and golfing. Slim was a member of First Baptist Church of Carl Junction, and a member and trustee of the Telephone Pioneers Organization.

Survivors include son, Larry and wife Sherry Johnson of Joplin, MO, grandchildren; Zeb and wife Beth Carney of Carthage, MO, Brandon and wife Erin Johnson of Joplin, Christy and husband Doug Metcalf of Joplin, and Ashley and husband Justin Bawl of Joplin; greatgrandchildren; Riley and Brooklyn Bawl, Addison and Lauren Carney, Gavin Johnson, brother Billy and wife Sharon Johnson of Perryton, TX, and sister Rose Cole of Wichita, KS

A visitation will be held from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary. A graveside service will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery at 10:30 a.m.

Arrangements are under the care and direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
