Leo Bontrager

Leo Myer Bontrager, age 90, Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2022 at Mercy of Joplin.

Leo was born April 23, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri, son of the late Cleo Bontrager and Ruth Ann (Myer) Bontrager. He graduated from East High School in Kansas City before earning a bachelor’s degree in Math in Kansas City. 










He then enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for over 17 years in active duty, and then 13 years with the reserves. He was a test pilot with the United States Air Force, and also flew C 124 and C 130 aircraft for years. He was a special relief pilot who flew missions to bring supplies to areas affected by disasters. He has even flown through hurricanes delivering aide to those in need. He was an avid golfer, and loved his time at Bella Vista over the years.

In addition to his parents, Leo was preceded in death by a brother, Floyd Bontrager.








Survivors include his children, Leo Jett Bontrager and wife Cindy of Carl Junction, Cheryl Fryatt and husband David of Louisburg, Kansas, and Linda Wickham and spouse C.J. of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Integrity Hospice Group, 4830 E. 32nd St., Joplin, MO 64804.
