Robert J. Thompson, 83, died peacefully at home on July 28, 2023, after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. He was born January 2, 1940, in Webb City, MO.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Margaret, and son, William, of Oklahoma. His father, James E. Thompson, mother, Dorothy Handka Galardo, sister, Minnie Thompson Joyner, and his daughter, Thresa Thompson, are all deceased, as well as stepfather, Holland “Dutch” Galardo and stepmother, Katherine England Thompson.
Bob retired as a district chief from the Joplin Fire Department. He also retired as a chief from the U.S. Navy Reserves. He owned Thompson Service Center until his final retirement in 2000. In his free time, Bob loved fishing, camping and being on the lake.
A private committal service was held on August 7, 2023, at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
