John Branner

John “Papa” R. Branner, age 73 of Joplin, Mo, passed away Wednesday, January 3rd 2024 at Mercy Hospital, surrounded by his closest loved ones.

John was born on November 22nd 1950 in Springfield, Illinois, and raised by John (Bud) Branner and Lillian (Granny) Branner. He has been an area resident of Joplin MO for over 15 years after moving from Tustin, California in 2007.








John proudly served his country for 2.5 years after being drafted to the US Army during the Vietnam war in 1970, during which time he received a bronze star. Following his discharge from the military, John completed the police academy accreditation, but chose to go into Washer and Dryer Servicing to provide for his family. He owned and operated Coin Master Washer Service where he worked for over 20 years until his retirement in 2007. He disliked retirement so much that he went back to work part time at Home Depot as the man who could answer any plumbing, electrical, or appliance related question you brought his way.

John married Cynthia Jean Benoit on November 7th 1970 in Detroit, Michigan, she survives.

He is also survived by three sons, David Branner of Joplin MO, Dewayne Branner and his wife Pamela of Longview WA, Joseph Branner and his wife AnnaLee of Dallas TX, four grandchildren, Britney Branner of Columbus OH, Serinitee Branner of Joplin MO, and Jacob and Logan Branner of Longview, WA.








John is preceded in death by his brother Dennis Branner (2019), brother Ira Branner, father John (Bud) Branner (1989), and Lillian (Granny) Branner (1975).

A memorial visitation has been scheduled for Monday, January 8, 2024 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Mason-Woodard Chapel.
