Lorna Buckmaster

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Lorna Buckmaster, age 82 passed away Thursday January 11, 2024 in Columbus, Kansas. Lorna was born to Wade and Lavon Kirk on September 12, 1941. She was a lifetime resident of Riverton, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Gary Buckmaster. She has 2 living siblings, Linda McCorkle and Gary Kirk.

Lorna and Gary were united in marriage in 1989. Together they formed a blended family of 5 children, Doug Buckmaster (Teresa) Carl Junction, Mo, Mark Buckmaster (Susan) Claremore, Ok, Pam Qualls (Mike) Joplin, Mo, Deb Porter (Scott) Riverton, Ks, Bart Dugan (Angie) Riverton, Ks.

Lorna, more commonly known as Nana and Gary (Papa), have 7 grandchildren Matt, Kim, Eric, Sarah, Chase, Makayla and Gunner, who they loved with all their hearts. Their best days were spent watching them and playing with them at their house or chasing them around the four-State area to attend ballgames and all activities these kids were involved in.

Nana has 7 great grandchildren Laurel, Emma, Konnor, Preslie, Emersyn, Robbi and Murphy. She loved each of them dearly and was so very proud of them.

Lorna was a gifted seamstress and sewed many dresses for her girls as well as their Barbies. She also loved to knit and crochet and made many baby blankets for her grands that will be cherished forever. She had several jobs over the years but her last and favorite was working at Riverton Schools. She was able to be with some of her children and grandchildren always keeping a watchful eye over them.

Mom had a very special relationship with her twin sister Linda. They have spent their lives with a deep bond and love for each other that only they fully understood. We grew up with two moms and 3 extra siblings, Lori, Daymon and Paula. We’ve had lots of fun times through the years. Uncle Butch has been a rock for our mom through many hard times and we love him for always being there for mom and for us.

We want to thank Autumn Place Columbus and Harry Hynes Hospice for their love and care of our mom the last two and a half years.

Graveside services are set for Monday January 22, 2024 at 1:00 in Pleasant View Cemetery, officiated by Wes Davis. Mom has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home in Baxter for cremation. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
