Betty Ledford

Betty Marie Ledford, 82, Cherokee, went home to heaven Thursday, August 9th, 2018, following a brief illness - suffering from a fall. Betty was born October 26, 1935, to Paul and Grace Barnes. She attended Cherokee High School and lived in Rural Cherokee her entire life.

Betty and Martin celebrated 60 years of loving marriage on April 5th. He survives at the home. After their children were grown, Betty worked 16 years at the USD #247 Weir School as secretary. Betty loved Jesus and was an active member of the Pittsburg Nazarene Church, teaching Sunday School and leading Bible studies. Betty led a community Bible study in her home for the past 8 years. Betty loved singing with her family.

Betty and Martin raised five children: Lynette (James) Holt, Lees Summit, MO; Cheryle (Rick) Moore, Pittsburg; Marta Ward, Cherokee; Paula (Matt) Volkmann, New Franklin, MO; Dustin (Kara) Ledford, Carthage, MO. They were proud of their 15 grandchildren and 8 greats. In all, 42 family members would gather at their home for holidays.

A service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday (August 13) at the Pittsburg Nazarene Church with Pastor Kyle Rogers and Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., at the Pittsburg Nazarene Church, 816 E. Quincy St., Pittsburg, KS. The family suggests memorials to the Pittsburg Nazarene Church kid’s camp. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762.
