Jo Ann Palmer, age 86, Carl Junction, passed away at 11:25 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2018 at St. Luke's Nursing Center, Carthage, after an illness.
Jo Ann was born September 26, 1931 in Pittsburg, Kansas to the late Ernest Glen DeArmond and Mary Irene Poore DeArmond and had lived in the Carl Junction area most of her life.
She graduated from Carl Junction High School and attended Joplin Junior College. A homemaker, Jo Ann was very active with the Carl Junction Senior Citizens Center, where she delivered with the Meals on Wheels program. Jo Ann also served as manager of the Carl Junction Senior Housing Authority for several years. She volunteered as an election judge and was an active member of Carl Junction United Methodist Church. Jo Ann loved her family and will be missed by all who knew her.
Survivors include two daughters, Dorothy J. Haddock and her husband, Ed, Purcell, Vivian I. Robertson and her husband, Jerry, Carl Junction; one son, Alan G. Palmer and his wife, Sherry, Carl Junction; a sister, Jean DeArmond, Seattle, Washington; eight grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren and several other extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Jo Ann was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Lois Newby; and two brothers, Lloyd DeArmond and Eldon DeArmond.
Services are planned for Friday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Carl Junction. Rev. Bob Simon will officiate. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Clint Haddock, Jarron Ritchie, Gabe Haddock, Chris Palmer, Sean Palmer and Greg Palmer. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, in care of Parker Mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
