David Thornton

David Thornton, age 71, Joplin, passed away at 1:38 a.m. Friday, August 31, 2018.

David was born November 30, 1946 in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Charlie Thornton and Nell Shelby Thornton.

He was a graduate of the University of Texas-Arlington and worked as a field engineer at Allgeier-Martin and Associates from 1985 until his retirement in 2014.

David had a passion for music and dancing. He was a dance instructor and event director for the UCWDC. David loved life, had an incredible sense of humor and was the life of the party wherever he went.

He also loved animals and donated much of his time to rescue campaigns. He and his wife organized the first large fundraiser for the Joplin Humane Society, an event that still carries on today.

David was a family man and will be missed by all who knew him.

He married Lynn Perry on March 24, 1994 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include three children, Jason Thornton, Wichita, Kansas, Amy Thornton, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Lindsey Wallace and husband, James, Joplin; siblings, Sue Fritz and husband, John, Oklahoma City, Perry Thornton and wife, Dawn, Little Rock; and grandchildren, Jacob, Gracie, Tytus and Taylor.

Memorial services are planned for Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Jason Thornton and Jeff Martin will officiate. The family will receive friends following the services at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Humane Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
