Bill Compton

William Ansel 'Bill' Compton, age 80, Joplin, passed away at 2:51 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, 2019 at Oak Pointe, Carthage.

Bill was born September 2, 1938 in Lawrence County, Missouri to the late Wilmer Horace Compton and Julia Ethel Lamb Compton.
He grew up in Lockwood and attended Lockwood schools.

Bill farmed in the Golden City area for several years before returning to Joplin in 1980. He had driven for several trucking companies during his career, including MON-KEM Trucking; Tri-State Motor Transit, and Casual for Yellow Freight in Baxter Springs. He joined Contract Freighters, Inc., later known as C.F.I. as an owner/operator, and was one of the longest running drivers in the company's history. He was also the first driver to log over four million miles. Throughout his driving career, Bill accumulated several awards for his dedication to the transportation industry.

Bill was a former member of Lamar Lodge #292, AF & AM, and had also served as past Grand Master. He transferred his membership to Joplin Lodge #345, AF & AM several years ago. In past years, Bill enjoyed square dancing; polka dancing, and hunting. He was a self taught auctioneer, and loved to sing along to his guitar. Bill was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, and will be missed by all who knew him.

On December 5, 1981, he married Bobbie Joan Giltner and lovingly helped her through seventeen years of cancer. She departed this life on November 30, 2008.








Survivors include his wife, Fronsie Keller Compton, whom he married on June 4, 2010; two daughters, Cathy L. Scott (fiancé, Monroe Rosebrough), Wentworth, Karen D. Zwingle (Allen), Buckeye, AZ; three grandchildren, Justin Scott (Cheyenne), Ryan Scott (Deja) , Bethany Mercer (James); three great grandchildren, Ameliya and Murphie Scott, Elise Mercer; step children, Carrie Giltner, Lutz, FL, Lisa Land, Webb City, Denisa Simpson (Lance), Webb City, Joe Hughes (Tami), Stockton; step grandchildren, Zac, Ashley, Darci, Katie, Michael, Carter, Brandon; and a niece, Shirley Boone, Joplin.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Browning; a step son-in-law, Chuck Land; and a step grandson, Tyler Land.

Services are planned for Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Webb City. Rev. Kyle Beverlin will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.
