Myra “Carlene” Shember, age 77, of Carl Junction, MO, passed away on July 5, 2019, at her home, following an illness. Myra was born on May 30, 1942 in Garland, UT, the daughter of the late James and Myra (Thompson) Johnston. She has been a resident of Carl Junction, MO since 1973. On March 19, 1964 she married James Shember in Rosemead, CA. Together they raised four sons.
Carlene was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. She worked for MSSU in the library where she ran the AV Center and was the overseer of Government documents. She was a member of the Red Hats in Joplin, and she served as a Committee Woman for the Jasper County Republican Party. She enjoyed sewing and family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-five years, James Shember, Carl Junction, MO; four sons, James Shember and wife Robin, Joplin, MO, Jason Shember and wife Misty, Jared Shember , and Jacob Shember and wife Kelly, all of Carl Junction, MO; one sister, Grace Crockett, Salt Lake City, UT fourteen grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Dale, Leland, Jacob and Burrel Johnston; and three sisters, Mae Petersen, Norma Miller, and Donna Nelson.
Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Carl Junction Cemetery. Bishop Bill Tucker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Carlene’s sons and grandsons. There will be no formal visitation, friends may view during regular visiting hours.
