David Ellis

David Edgar Ellis, Jr., a resident of the Missouri Veterans Home in Mount Vernon, MO, son of David Edgar and Lola Muriel Ellis, was born on September 9, 1931 in Crane, MO and departed this life on January 1, 2020, at the age of 88. His last few days were spent with his loving family close by his side. The flag was draped over his body, prayer was spoken, Taps was played, and a final salute was given, as staff and family paid tribute.

David lived most of his life in Crane and Aurora MO. He was a Pastor. David’s first ministry position was in 1962, ordained by the Church of God General Conference of Findlay OH. He pastored churches in Mt. Carrol IL, Crane MO, Ft. Scott KS, Charleston IL, and Aurora MO. In his “spare time”, he worked 25 years or more at Kraft Foods in Springfield, and he painted houses in the day. He ministered to everyone he knew, no matter where that was, and he was loved by so many. David was notorious for playing jokes and loved to make people laugh.

David met the one and only love of his life as a child. He walked Darlene to school in Kindergarten, and was by her side until her passing in 2009. David served his country bravely in the US Army during the Korean War in 1952 and 1953. He achieved the rank of Corporal, and he attended Officer Training School, before returning home.








David was preceded in death by his parents, David and Lola Ellis; his wife, Darlene Ellis; his infant daughter, Angela Diane Ellis and two sisters, Dorothy Roden and Blanche Morrison.

He is survived by: two daughters, Nanette Hopkins of Aurora, MO and Jan Bacher and her husband, Bruce of Carthage, MO; one sister, Wanda Reser of Florida; three grandchildren, Tony Hopkins, and his wife, Jenny, David Bacher and his wife, Bailey and Bryan Bacher; two great grandchildren, Marin Hopkins and Linden Hopkins; one expected great grandchild, Blair Bacher and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Sunday, January 5, 2020 in Stumpff Funeral Chapel, Crane, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2020 in Stumpff Funeral Chapel, Crane, MO with Reverend Keith Raderstorf officiating. Burial will be in Crane Community Cemetery, Crane, MO under the direction of Stumpff Funeral Home, Crane, MO.
