Gene Hall

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Freddie Eugene “Gene” Hall passed peacefully on November 13, 2020 at the age of 75, at his home, surrounded by his family after an honorable battle with lymphoma.

He was born November 18, 1944 in Neosho, Missouri to Fred A. and Mildred Wander Hall. He grew up in the Splitlog, Missouri community helping on the Hall family farms raising strawberries & tomatoes. His elementary years were at the two-room Banner School. He was a 1962 graduate of Anderson High School.

He married his love of 56 years, Margaret Stout, on June 19, 1964 at Splitlog Baptist Church. Gene was also a graduate of NEO A&M College and Southwest Missouri State University.

McDonald County was his home for most of his life and he was passionate about serving his community. Gene was elected County Clerk in 1986 and later Circuit Clerk where he served until retiring in 2010. He considered it an honor to serve. He was very involved in the McDonald County Republican Club through the years and was intensely patriotic. He had a keen interest in preserving the history of McDonald County and was key to the growth of the McDonald County Historical Society.

Gene was a Christian and a committed member of Splitlog Baptist Church, having served in many positions through the years. He lived life with the greatest integrity and respect for others. He was a good friend, encourager and always a peacemaker. He showed God’s love by serving others in many and various ways in the church and community.

His family knew him as Poppy and will treasure the memories on his farm in Beeman Hollow. He was our go to, our rock, our encourager, our listening ear, our advisor or matters large and small, and he made each of us feel special. We spent many vacations together at Taylor Park Colorado, Roaring River and one of his biggest joys in life was fishing. He had a soft spot for his animals and loved spending time on his farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister Kathy Shaddox.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret, along with their two children, son Bryan Hall and wife Sherri and daughter Angie Vick and husband Travis, all of Anderson, Missouri. Also surviving are grandchildren Cody Hall and wife Journey, Madison Hall, Isaac (Ike) Wortman and wife Sammy, Sidney Graham and husband John, Chelsea Cook and husband Trent, Colter Vick, Landon Vick, Harper Vick and Blakely Vick, great-grandchildren Bryar Wortman and Brenlee Wortman.
