James Knapp

James Franklin Knapp Jr., age 74, of Joplin, passed away on Friday June 4, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

James was born January 20, 1947, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, to the late union of James Sr. and Louetta (Kingsley) Knapp. He grew up in the Tulsa are, and attended Bixby Highschool. 

Passionate about local sports, James served as an assistant coach to many of the youth teams in the area, and was a dedicated Boomer Sooner fan. 








He was a man of many trades, a lifelong carpenter and painter alongside an electric working career. Later in life he moved to the Joplin area, where he has spent the last four and a half years. James was an avid outdoorsman and artist throughout his entire life. He enjoyed woodworking, painting, and fishing in his spare time.

In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings Louella Gray, Jana Lou, Janice Sue, Kenneth, and Ronald.

Survivors include his five children, James Knapp III of Tulsa, Samuel Knapp of Tulsa, Breanna Knapp of Joplin, Raymond Knapp of Joplin, and Skye Knapp of Tulsa; grandchildren, Shelbi, Jessikah, Brandon, Justin, Samantha, Desiree, Kaiya, and Liana; great-grandchildren, Braylee, Wiatt, and Spencier; and many, many cousins.

Memorial Service will be Saturday, June 12, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary in Joplin with family receiving friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. until service time on Saturday.

James will be fondly remembered and deeply missed by countless friends and family. In lieu of flowers, go out to your favorite lake and catch some fish – he would’ve wanted that.
