(From Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home)Mary Alice Jones, 79, Wyandotte, OK passed away August 10, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin after an illness.
Mary Alice Sherer was born March 1, 1942 in Joplin, MO the daughter of Cecil and Pauline (Lagers) Sherer. Mary was a graduate of Seneca High School. She received her bachelors degree in Elementary Education from Missouri Southern State College with Magna Cum Laude honors.
Mary had a passion for biology and French. She taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Jefferson, Irving and Cecil Floyd Elementary Schools in Joplin, MO retiring in 1997. Mary was a member of three teachers associations. She loved flower gardening and had a special appreciation for nature, hummingbirds, fishing, cooking, collecting rocks and shells almost everywhere she went. Mary put her family first and always wanted them to have the very best. Mary was a member of the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church where she helped preparing the meals.
Mary Alice Sherer married Clarence (Spike) Jones March 20, 1959 in Miami, OK and he survives.
Additional survivors include two daughters; Jane Schmidt, Joplin, MO and Lea Ann Gee and husband Darren, Nixa, MO; one son, Morris B. Jones, Wyandotte, OK; one sister, Carol Hall, Broken Arrow, OK; grandchildren, Evan Jewsbury, Patience Jones, Maddison Jewsbury, Blake Gee, Bailea Gee; great-grandchildren, Paislea Ann and Lucus.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents and son Thomas (Bryan) Jones.
The family will receive friends from 10:30am to 11:00am, Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at the Buffalo Creek Baptist Church, Tiff City. Funeral services will follow at 11:00am with Justin Steadman officiating. Pallbearers will be Donnie Mayes, Kenny Whitehill, Robert Cornell, Larry Hodson, Todd Franklin and Hank Whitehead. Private burial will be at the Seneca Cemetery, Seneca, MO.
Funeral arrangements are under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.
