Betty Heck

Betty Jo Heck, 88, of Carthage, Missouri died Tuesday, April 12, 2022 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Carthage, Missouri. 

Betty was born May 19, 1933 to Samuel and Ernestine (Kimberlin) Block in rural Sarcoxie, Missouri. She was a lifetime resident of Jasper County, Missouri and a graduate of Sarcoxie High School in 1951. 

Betty started work after graduation at the Juvenile Shoe Factory in Sarcoxie, Missouri. She retired from the factory after 25 years. 








Upon retiring in the 1970’s, she went to work for the Barney Scott Real Estate office in Carthage, Missouri. She continued as a secretary and bookkeeper until retiring from Charles Burt Home Folks Reality in 2010. Betty worked in real estate for 30 plus years before retiring for the second time. Betty was a member of the Dudman Springs Presbyterian Church and later attended the First United Methodist Church in Carthage, Missouri.

On July 15, 1955 Betty married Hershel J. Heck in Miami, Oklahoma. They were married for 53 years. Betty and Hershel lived on a farm in rural Carthage until moving into town in 1991; Hershel preceded Betty in death in 2009.

Also preceding Betty’s death were her parents, Samuel and Ernestine Block; one sister, Billie Jean Miller; two brothers, Robert Lee Block and Samuel E. Block; and three brother-in-laws, Max Hunsucker, Bob Barnes and Daryl Oberbeck.

Betty is survived by one brother, Charles Leroy Block and his wife, Bobbie of Reeds, Missouri; four sisters, Anna May Hunsucker of Richmond, Kentucky, Mary Jane Barnes of Springfield, Missouri, Louise Oberbeck of Marshfield, Missouri and Roberta Lewis and her husband, Richard of Paola, Kansas; and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022 at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Sarcoxie Cemetery.
