(From Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home)Phillip S. Jack, Sr., 88, of Carthage, Missouri, and formerly of Altamont, passed away at 11:54 a.m., Monday April 11, 2022, at his home.
Phillip Samuel Jack was born on September 19, 1933, to Sam King and Wintress Lucille (Woolard) Jack in Pharr, Texas. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Valeda, Kansas, where he grew up and attended school. In 1951, Phillip graduated from Labette County Community High School.
On May 21, 1952, he entered the United States Air Force. He trained from May to July at Parks Air Force Base. From July to January 1953, he went to Chanute AFB for Prop School. Starting in July 1953, Phillip was at Hecham AFB for three years. In 1956, he was out for around 60 days before he rejoined the Air Force that July. For the next two years, he was stationed at Forbes AFB and then three years at Plattsburg AFB in New York. He was then stationed at Kadena AFB in Okinawa, Japan for three years. Upon returning to the U.S., he was stationed at Warner Robins AFB in Georgia. In December 1968, he went to NhaTrang Vietnam for one year. In January 1969, he returned to Forbes AFB for 1 ½ years before being stationed at Korat AFB in Thailand for one year. He then returned to Forbes AFB and retired as a Tech Sergeant in September 1972.
Following his 21 years of service in the Air Force, Phillip returned to the Parsons area and worked at Parsons State Hospital and Training Center from 1973 to 1977. He then began working at Western Publishing, from where he retired in 1994 as an electrician.
He was a member of the Baptist church in rural Carthage, Missouri. Woodworking, woodcarving, and traveling were some of Phillip’s favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed motorcycles and airplanes. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
In December 1955, Phillip and Leimomi M. Aki were united in marriage in Honolulu, Hawaii. She preceded him in death on September 8, 1991. He and Barbara were united in marriage on March 22, 1994. She preceded him in death on November 16, 2018.

One son – Phillip Jack and his wife, Julie, of Joplin, Missouri
Two step-daughters – Carla Stipcak and her husband, Gary, of Summerville, South Carolina
Marsha Smyth and her husband, Derek, of Carthage, Missouri
Ten grandchildren – Sam Jack and his wife, Hannah; Isaac Jack and his wife, Tiffiny; Jack Hunter and his wife, Jessica; Emily Hunter; Donya Housinger and her husband, Dan; Colin Stipcak and his wife, Courtney; Jordan Stipcak; Keaton Stipcak; Morgan Storm and her husband, Preston; and Drake Smyth and his wife, Gina
Sixteen great-grandchildren
Four brothers – Bob Jack of Sarcoxie, Missouri
Wendell Jack and his wife, Mary, of Haysville, Kansas
Bill Jack and his wife, Linda, of Owasso, Oklahoma
Donnie Joe Jack and his wife, Evelyn, of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma
One sister – Connie Plowman and her husband, Dwayne, of Oologah, Oklahoma
One brother-in-law – Martin Straub of Claremore, Oklahoma
He was preceded in death by his wife, Leimomi Jack; his wife, Barbara Jack; one daughter, Mardine Wilson and her husband Heath; one brother, Ronnie Jack; and one sister, Lucille Straub.
The funeral will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home of Parsons. Burial will follow at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Altamont. The family will receive friends from 6 – 7:00 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home.
