Betty Wright

(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)

Betty Lou (Bittick) Wright, 89, formerly of Sarcoxie, Missouri, was joyfully received into her heavenly home, on April 28, 2022. She was born August 3, 1932, to Earl and Ellen Bittick in Douglas County, Missouri.

She graduated from Sarcoxie High School in 1949 at which time she married Leslie J. Wright. On their first attempt at elopement, Les and Betty traveled to Bentonville, Arkansas, only to find the courthouse closed. They returned home to Missouri, and then traveled again the next day, on May 23, 1949, at which time they were married. They were married just shy of sixty years.

She and Les raised their family in Collinsville, Oklahoma, where they were active in their church and community. Upon retirement in 1990, they desired to return to their roots and moved back to southwest Missouri where they spent almost twenty years enjoying ranching and retirement before Les’s death in 2008. In 2014, she moved to southwest Oklahoma to be closer to family.

When she wasn’t spending time with her family or serving her church, she sewed countless quilts and matching dresses for her granddaughters, tended to her gardens, and cooked endless meals from scratch for friends and family. She was a gifted hostess and awed her kids and grandkids with the way she would prepare and host them for a week at a time during the summer and holidays.

She was a woman of deep faith and exemplified Biblical hospitality to everyone she met and every person who entered her home. She taught her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and those that would come through her Sunday school class to love God’s word and to honor Him always. She lived a life of faithful sacrifice, striving to be content in every situation, and believing His Word that He would never, “leave (her) nor forsake (her.)” (Hebrews 13:5)

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Les; her son, Kevin; and her brother, Darryl Bittick.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara (Bruce) Gahagan, of Mangum, OK.; her daughter-in-law, Mary Ann Wright, of Post, Texas; six granddaughters, Kelsey (Jon) Travis of Mangum, OK.; Glyn (Richard) McKay, of Arlington, TX.; Kylie (Robert) Peeler, of Reed, OK.; Sydney Wright of Austin, TX.; Jordan Wright of Post, TX.; and Averey Wright, of Antigua, Guatemala; nine great-grandchildren, Luci, Jagger, and Molli Jac Travis; Eli and Ava Peeler; Fletcher, Isaac, and Anna Margaret McKay; and Camryn Jane; her brother, Gene (Joyce) Bittick; Janie and Mel Harter, of Springfield, MO.; as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children or the International Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention.

Funeral services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 2,2022 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri, with Pastor Richard McKay officiating.
