Ruth Martin

On April 8, 2022, Ruth Ann Martin 85, of Grove, OK went to her rest in sleep awaiting the return of her Lord and Savior. She was born August 11, 1936, in Rogers, AR to Samuel Roger Harris and Cora Mayme Williams Harris. She was the 4th of 4 children growing up on a small farm. Attended Pleasant Ridge, one room schoolhouse grades 1-8th. Later moved to Gentry, AR and graduated from Ozark Academy in 1953.

She began a career in a medical/hospital in Madison, TN 1960 worked as a surgical technician at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers, AR 1962 and became a Certified Nurse Aide in KS, AR, and OK. She got her Nursing Home Administrator License In KS  1975, MO 1985 and AR 1989.








Ruth met and married Walter Martin later they moved to Grove, OK in 1996 where they were caretakes on a cattle farm, then moving to a cottage on Grand Lake and spent much of their free time fishing. In 2013 after Walter passed Ruth moved to Baptist Village Honey Creek, where she made many friends who filled her life with joy in many ways.

Ruth loved fishing, camping and gardening. Loved animals, playing games like dominoes, cribbage, solitaire, especially if she could win! She enjoyed teaching her grandkids all these games, and how to swim, fish and Have Fun! Ruth was an active member of The Living Church of God always studying the Bible and had read through the Bible several times.

Ruth is preceded in death by Husband, Walter Martin; parents, Samuel and Cora (Williams) Harris; two brothers, John and James Harris; two Daughters, Tonda McAvoy and Bennie Lou Moos.

Ruth leaves behind six daughters, Ruth Carson and husband Kevin of Joplin, MO, Marie Daniel of Grove, OK, Connie Knowles of Grove, OK, Susan Allen and husband Tim of Joplin, MO, Linda Fisher and husband Darrell of Grove, OK and Elaine Lane of Neodesha, KS; one son, Jerry Post of Tulsa, OK; Beloved sister and best friend, Mary Daniels of Ainsworth, NE; Niece’s Brenda Lemay of Ainsworth, NE and Joell Hawkins of Troy, MT; nephew, Danny Daniels and wife Teri of Ainsworth, NE; 29 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren and 16 great- great- grandchildren; extended family and friends. She will be missed dearly by all that knew and loved her dearly.

Ruth’s Celebration of Life Gathering on Sunday, May 1, 2022, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the Living Church of God 6417 Gateway Dr., Joplin, Missouri 64804, 417-623-8888. Arrangements are entrusted to Lawson’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Services, 722 N. 46th St., Grove, OK 74344 with Shaunda J. Lawson, 3rd Generation Owner/Funeral Director and Staff.
