Max Page

Max E. Page, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 in Springdale, Arkansas. He was born on January 17, 1933 in Mound Valley, Kansas to Rowland E. and Bertha (Ferguson) Page. He was a graduate of Alba High School in Alba, Missouri at the age of 17. 

Max attended Joplin Junior College from 1950-1951 and taught in the Rising Sun and Pleasant Valley school districts until he was inducted into the United States Army in 1953, where he served until 1955 when he was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant-First-Class. He went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University (Kansas) with a Bachelor’s Degree in 1957 and a Master’s Degree in 1961. He was an accomplished athlete in high school and college, playing basketball, football and then semi-pro baseball. 

He started in the Webb City R-7 School District as a teacher in 1955 and ended his career there in 1982 as Director of Elementary Education. He became Director of Elementary Education from 1982-1984 in the Hartville R-2 School District. From 1984 until his retirement in 1988, he served as Principal at Garfield Elementary in Coffeyville, Kansas. He spent part of his retirement years continuing to follow his passion for students by serving as an aide in the Springdale Public School System. He was a member of American Legion Post #139 in Springdale. 

Max loved fishing, camping, traveling and watching the Pittsburg State Gorillas and Arkansas Razorbacks in any sporting event. In 1988, Max and his wife Peggy, retired to Beaver Lake in Lowell, Arkansas where he spent time with his dog Freckles and cats Tommy and Lucky, as well as fishing out on the pontoon, volunteering at the local fire department and entertaining children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

Max is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Peggy, his sister Roberta Williams, three sons: Jon Page, Mickey Page and Carl Smith and three daughters: Teresa Page, Annette Elam and Rebecca McDonald and 15 grandchildren: Jonnie, Mason, Andrea, Tyler, Shelby, Kitrick, Michael, Cassandra, Kristina, Matthew, Amanda, Kalee, Jamie, Kiersten and Riegen and many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren. 

Max was preceded in death by his parents, brother Harry, son Gregory and daughter Joyce. Max was known by many, loved by all and his smile warmed any heart and lit up any room. He will be missed beyond measure. 

Graveside service will be held at 10:30 am on Friday April 29 at Fayetteville National Cemetery.
