(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Galen Christiansen, age 94 of Columbus, passed away peacefully at home April 21, 2022.
He was born on June 28, 1927 in Columbus, KS to the union of Arthur and Pauline (Kubler) Christiansen. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served from 1946-1947.
He was married to Martha Anne Belt in Columbus, KS, on August 4,1947 in Columbus, KS.
He graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in Education with emphasis on athletics. After working a few years, he went back to Pittsburg State University and received his Masters Degree in Education in 1961. He was a long- time resident of Columbus, and enjoyed farming on the side.
He is survived by his wife, Martha, and children, Todd (wife Shelby), Lisa Howard (husband, Laddie), and Clay (wife, Karen); three sisters: Erma Juergensen of Churdan, Iowa, Thelma Wuerdeman of Pittsburg, KS, and Edna Lassman of Carl Junction, MO.; Five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Ann Ayers, and one sister, Doris Christiansen.
Mr. Christiansen has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus for cremation. No services are planned at this time.
