(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Dr. Charles Wirt Hornbrook, age 88, of Miller, Missouri, passed away at 5:43 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022, at his home. He was born April 30, 1933, in West Plains, Missouri, son of the late John Wirt and Clara Augusta (Ege) Hornbrook.
He graduated from Muleshoe High School in Muleshoe, Texas and received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Baylor University in Dallas, Texas. He established dental practices in Largo, Florida and Springfield, Missouri.
On August 14, 1959, he married Marilyn Jean Howard in Largo, Florida.
Dr. Hornbrook had a life-long love of English Bulldogs – getting his first puppy at age 4 and his final 2 this past fall. He said many times, “I don’t want a dog I can’t outrun.”
His other passion was cars and motorcycles. He built a race car and drove it at the Bonneville Salt Flats from 1990 – 2002. In 1995, at the age of 62, he set a land speed record of 150.088 mph in the 1000 cc modified sport division. He also participated in the Chili Bowl Nationals in Tulsa, Oklahoma for many years.
Dr. Hornbrook is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Erin Hornbrook of Oronogo, Missouri and Shane Jackson and her husband, Kyle, of Miller, Missouri; two sons, Marc Hornbrook and his wife, Rosemary, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and John Hornbrook and his wife, Lisa, of Plano, Texas; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
