(From Parker Mortuary)Earl Eugene Fortner, age 94, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Earl was born on November 30, 1927 in Joplin, MO to the late Cecil and Letha (Boyd) Fortner.
Earl married Maxine Mounce, on July 5, 1953 in Joplin. Earl attended Missouri Southern State University for criminal justice and served as a Joplin Police Officer for many years and was a member of the Elks Club in Joplin.
Survivors include a son, Ray Fortner, Joplin; a daughter, Linda Moss, Joplin; one grandson, Curtis Moss, Portland, OR; one granddaughter Shelli Greer, Carlsbad, NM; two great granddaughters, Jaslyn and Cadance Harkness; a great- great granddaughter, Shaunnie Harkness; and a sister, Cheryl Edgar, Flagstaff, AZ. In addition to his parents, Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha “Maxine” Mounce Fortner.
The family will hold a Celebration of Life gathering at the Joplin Elks Lodge on Thursday, April 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
